DMZ - Vinh Moc Tunnels

DMZ tour - Vinh Moc Tunnels
Duration: 1 Day
Transportation: Private car / tourist bus
Morning:
07:30: The tour guide and vehicle pick you up at your hotel in Hue city center and depart for the DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) in Quang Tri province.
On the way, you will travel along the famous “Highway of Horror” – the section of National Route 1 that witnessed the tragic massacre in 1972. During several hours of intense artillery and ground attack, thousands of civilians (mostly elderly people, women, and children) as well as many soldiers were killed.
Next, visit Long Hung Church – one of the very few architectural structures still standing in Quang Tri town after the fierce Eastern Offensive in 1972. It is recognized as a National Historical Relic (BA5453).
Continue to Quang Tri Ancient Citadel – the site of one of the most ferocious battles during the 1972 resistance against the American forces. Over the course of 81 days and nights of continuous fighting, the citadel was almost completely destroyed by thousands of tons of bombs and artillery shells.
Dakrong Bridge – considered the northern gateway of the legendary Ho Chi Minh Trail network. During the Vietnam War, this strategic crossing was the scene of fierce and repeated fighting. The bridge was destroyed many times but was always rebuilt.
Ta Con (Khe Sanh) Combat Base – a legendary battlefield. From 1966–1968, this was a major U.S. airbase used for helicopters, transport aircraft, and fighter jets. On June 26, 1968, after facing four powerful liberation offensives by the People’s Army of Vietnam, U.S. forces were forced to open a bloody retreat route and completely abandon Khe Sanh – Ta Con.
Light snack break at Khe Sanh town. Opportunity to enjoy famous Khe Sanh coffee (at own expense).
Afternoon:
The vehicle and guide take you to visit the Hien Luong Bridge – Ben Hai River historical site.
The 17th Parallel, marked by Hien Luong Bridge and Ben Hai River, was the painful witness to the division of Vietnam into North and South for more than 20 years during the resistance war against America. Guests will visit the exhibition house “The 17th Parallel and the Aspiration for Reunification” and the “Aspiration for Reunification” monument cluster on the south bank of the Ben Hai River.
Continue to Vinh Moc Tunnels in Vinh Linh district.
Located in Vinh Thach commune, Vinh Moc tunnel village is a true historical miracle and a powerful symbol of the unbreakable will of the people of Quang Tri.
The tunnel system has 13 entrances (6 leading to the hills and 7 toward the sea), 3 ventilation shafts, wooden supporting pillars to prevent collapse, cleverly camouflaged and angled according to wind direction for good ventilation. The total length of the tunnels is nearly 2,034 meters, with height ranging from 0.6–0.8 m and width about 0.9 m. The system is divided into 3 levels, the deepest reaching over 23 meters underground. Vinh Moc Tunnels are considered one of the most unique and legendary works of people’s warfare in Vietnam. Despite enduring countless bombs and the passage of time, the tunnel system remains almost completely intact to this day.
18:00: End of the program.
The vehicle and guide bring the group back to Hue city center and drop you off at the original pickup point. Tour ends.
